You will get to the point in your WordPress Blogging Journey ; where you need to have a major Makeover (or a Re-Do, Redux for the techies) for the colors in your blog , but you are afraid of breaking your blog….Do not know HOW… etc
And while some of WordPress skins come with options to change the way your theme looks, most of them do not! Thanks to the built-in theme editing features for WordPress ; it easier than you think!
Here are your Easy steps: Step One: Plan ahead
Take a good look at your current template and make a Need-To-Do list of what you like to change in it, starting with the most important .
Step Two: Get your tools readyDo not worry, the only tool you will need here is Absolute Color Picker: a small, Free program that shows the screen colors in numbers, and you are going to use a nifty features here where you click –and-hold on any color on your screen; and color picker will give you the number for that color down to a single pixel! or type in any color number in a small window and SEE it on the screen.
Step Three: Back up your Data Base!!!!!Use WordPress Database Backup Plugin or any other way you are familiar with, but: Do not skip on this one! Even though we are not doing anything with WP files itself; make it a habit to backup every time you change anything in WordPress.
Step Four: Let’s Go- Open your blog home page in your browser.
- Open Absolute Color Picker : Choose Palettes tab in ACP and Windows from the Drop down Menu and you are set.
- Open your Admin Panel in WordPress, and set it up so you can see all three on your screen at the same time.
Click on “Editor” tab under “Appearance” on your Dashboard, Edit Themes will open with Stylesheet (style.css) already there.
You are going to hunt for anything that says: Color in it, and under any section in your stylesheet; usually with “#” followed by numbers and letters, for an example: ” color: #b85b5a”, and ACP makes it easy to hunt because you can enter any color number you see on your stylesheet; and it will show you that color under ”Picker Active X”. Example Your blog Background is Black, and you want to change it to Red: > Look at ACP for black square and click on it, you will see 000000, search for background color # in” body { “ section in the stylesheet ; it should be : 000000, > click on Red square in ACP and the number should be: FF0000 > Change (do not be scared) 000000 into FF0000 in your stylesheet. > Click on update file on the bottom of Edit Theme screen, Presto! When you refresh your blog homepage; RED is all over the background!
Do not stop at your blog background color, you now have the power to change any color you do not like: Footer is in playful Pink( FF9FFF)…here come the Blue (007FFF) instead ! All you need to know is the color number.
Spring is in the Air, Go ahead and splash your blog with your favorite colors; it is your own corner of the Blogsphere after all! Hint:You really missed your colors up, just upload your theme style.css file again, all the changes you made will be gone, and you can start over!
