With so many plugins popping up left and right for WordPress nowadays, it is a jungle out there!
You like a plugin, download it, install it and activate it only to end up with a mesh of My SQL lingo on your blog front page and every post!
You choosed your widgets wisley( I hope), now it is the Plugin’s turn. Here is a small list of plugins that play together nicely, their description according to the authors and in no particular order :
-
Google (XML) Sitemaps Generator
“This plugin generates a XML-Sitemap compliant sitemap of your WordPress blog. This format is supported by Ask.com, Google, YAHOO and MSN Search.”
-
WordPress Database Backup
“WordPress database backup creates backups of your core WordPress tables as well as other tables of your choice in the same database.”
-
Platinum SEO Plugin
“Platinum SEO Plugin is the ultimate wordpress SEO solution.”
-
Akismet
“Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet web service to see if they look like spam or not.”
-
Broken Link Checker
“Checks your posts for broken links and missing images and notifies you on the dashboard if any are found.”
-
cformsII
“cforms is a feature rich plugin for WordPress, offering convenient deployment of multiple Ajax driven contact forms throughout your blog or even on the same page.”
-
Flexible Lightbox
“Integrate Lightbox into your blogs. Open Images and Native Galleries on the popup overlay window without touching the html code. On the image setting panel you can select if you want to ‘Open using Lightbox’.”
-
StatPressCN
“Shows you real time statistics about your blog”
Plugin Home Page
-
Twitter Tools
“This plugin that creates an integration between your WordPress blog and your Twitter account. It allows you to pull your tweets into your blog (as posts and digests) and create new tweets on blog posts and from within WordPress.”
There are more; a whole lot more and it is up to you to pick and choose which one meets your blogging needs, but I would recommend doing the following:
-
Upgrad your WordPress version (and the plugins) regularly,
-
Back up your Data Base if the plugin requires it (no kidding here, you will thank me later),
-
Stick with which version of WordPress is compatible up to or experment at your own risk!
-
And if any plugin gives you errors on your pages; try a similar one OR you live Without it!
Keep on Blogging!

WordPress fans: Plugins you can live with! http://tinyurl.com/cd3rpu
I have used WordPress from the beginning and I’m very happy with it. I especially like Aksimet and its ability to detect spam. You have given me a lot more ideas to expand my use of WordPress. Thanks for the insight.
You are welcome Askcherlock
Aksimet is one of my favorites too; and with my Wall attracting Spam like crazy; it keeps them at bay!
WordPress is a powerful platform but not too many users know how to use it; and I am trying to help at that.
Great info. Wish I could use these plug ins on my blog. Will have to see if I can.
