Kill is a harsh word to use when it comes to WordPress; but for some bloggers, blogging is way of life and their blog is part of immediate family. That blog will have a life on its own!
The following simple steps are your road map to killing your WordPress blog ( or any blog in any flavor for that matter), use any or all of them at your discretion!
Of course I am kidding; nobody wants to see his/her hard work on any blog go to waste; but so many of us bloggers do just that, we tend to ignore the obvious, delay the certain and hope that broken things will fix themselves…Somehow.
- Install buggy Plugins: With all due respect to our WordPress plugins authors, some plugins are released early and full of bugged code; we use them and …Boom… Blog Be Gone! And forget about trying to tell what is wrong with that plugin…it is Beta to start with.
- Choose the wrong theme: Oh the Pains of the Skin…. again! Not only some of us zoom on a totally irrelevant, outdated or even Bizarre theme just because we like them, we try hard to keep them going even though they do not work!
- Ignore your Data Base maintenance: A word to the wize; easy to just set and forget until it blows up in your face (in size that is, KB become Mega….etc.) and your blog will learn how to crowl while loading.
- Neglect your blog FEED: Your blog feed is a very important part of your blog, some of us subscribe to that feed and expect it to be there when they want to check what you are up to lately. For some blogs the lights are on but nobody is home!
- Ping to the max: This one is unknown to most, when you write a post and publish it, your WordPress blog will send a Ping to multiple blog directories, ping more than normal:”I sneezed…Ping..” .and you have a Spammy blog….the rest is history.
- Advertise everything, everywhere: Banners and Text links Galore; and we have to literally step over tons of them to hunt for your articles. If you are planning on making a living from those ads; I have a bridge to sell you…cheap!
- Pick a lousy Web Hosting Company: You would save money for sure; but you will pay it back at your first Tech Support Panic, and do not worry…they will fix it for you sometime this year.
- Flash your visitors: No; not what you are thinking, I am talking about your Flash intros and splash screens that everybody ignores, and to make it better (or worse) a sticky post with Flash in it.
- Talk Forever: Whoever got the time to read your 1000+ words post must have nothing else to do, and if hovering around the sweet 500 mark is not your cup of tea, why not start writing novels?
- Socialize us to death: At every corner and available white space in your pages; sure we will Bookmark your blog, it is going to take its spot under: Do Not Visit Again List.
- Talk about the weather: At your Art Blog…OK, this one needs a pause; We know that your content SHOULD be relevant to your blog, so unless that weather is a piece of art…you get the point…I hope.
Go ahead, Take those steps and watch in misery as your blog plunges into the abyss of The Forgotten Ones,
Just do not say: If only I did not do that; too late buddy, there is nothing harder than fixing a broken blog image…not even a miracle will help!
