Or a Search Engine by any other name!
According to Google:
“For the last several months, a large team of Googlers has been working on a secret project: a next-generation architecture for Google’s web search. It’s the first step in a process that will let us push the envelope on size, indexing speed, accuracy, comprehensiveness and other dimensions. The new infrastructure sits “under the hood” of Google’s search engine, which means that most users won’t notice a difference in search results. But web developers and power searchers might notice a few differences…”
By now you should have stopped worrying about the impact of the “New and Improved Google” on your search results ranking; and started working on your web site or blog to make the most out of it.
Easier said…but it is easy to do…really.
Here are some tips on how to make your site (or blog) ready:Site Loading Time:
Do I have to remind you again that: Faster loading site is better? You do not need those faster search results to take us to your site and we take a nap while it loads! You know: Take out the dead links and pre-historic pages, tweak that HTML code until it is squeaky lean and mean and optimize your images while passing on those fancy flash add-ons.
Keywords:
You content should be helpful to us humans and does mean something to your visitors; not just search spiders. So all that Keyword stuffing should go the way of the dinosaurs, put your relevant keywords up front and center and use your related keywords and synonyms wisely!
Social Media:
Did I mention that Facebook knocked off Google for the first spot in traffic lately? Social Media is here to stay; and including it in Google Caffeine is part of the new search engine. If you have (and you should have) social media pages and profiles…start working on them.
Domain Age and Authority:
Same old song; new lyrics: Unless you have a new super star site on your hand; all the Link Farms and those tons of links on your index page will help you none!
Older and Authority Sites will be ahead of the rest in search results, nothing you can do about that…anyway!
Site Index:
How many really good content and relevant pages you have is one of the factors in how you will rank…work on those old pages and bring them up to date and add some new and interesting ones.
As you can see; nothing out of the ordinary about what you are already doing to promote your site, but you have to make it faster and more relevant to your visitors, having too many cups of coffee (pun intended) in the process is a side effect!
